Your People LLC was founded in 2007 by Lynne (Schreiber) Golodner, who has built her life around telling stories. It’s only natural, then, that as we guide clients of all sizes and industries in blogging as a platform for their unique, compelling stories, we would launch our own blog, to share stories of meaning, of purpose, of relationship and of connection.
“The Times They Are A-Changin”
Our company began as a reaction to a shrinking journalism industry and a time of uncertainty. Founded on the cusp of the 2008 economic crisis, as Lynne was becoming a single mother of three young children (ages 1, 3, and 5), Your People was a phoenix rising from the ashes of a time of unfettered risk and outsized leaps of unprecedented proportions.
Lynne didn’t want to put her kids in day care. Her friends and colleagues were being laid off in record numbers. Her house was upside down, as were so many in American cities. She chose to look at the changing times as a door opening to opportunity, if you could just believe.
She leapt – hoping the net would appear. And it did.
Building Mutually Beneficial Relationships
In its first year of existence, Your People acquired three clients – Hiller’s Markets came on first, the only client Lynne ever cold-called, believing there would be synergy between her experience with food writing for magazines and newspapers and a lifelong familiarity with this family-owned grocery chain. The ball started rolling from there. Lynne approached Yoga Shelter, where she practiced yoga at the time, curious about its origins and its messaging and eager to coordinate its stories into meaningful channels for a wide audience of consumers. They came on. And more followed.
After 2008, Lynne left her freelance journalism career for good (although she still contributes articles on occasion when she has something important to say or a friendly editor asks her to take on a cool story). She focused on building Your People into a company that filled needs the market didn’t yet understand.
In the first six months of working with Jim Hiller, CEO of Hiller’s Markets, Lynne professed that she believed business would build if she could build relationships and a sense of community for businesses. Mr. Hiller scoffed at the notion and told her it was a stupid idea. Revering this client and mentor, Lynne worried that her entrepreneurial instincts might be off-mark, but still she persevered and stubbornly maintained her focus that business built by building mutually beneficial relationships.
A year later, Mr. Hiller came to Lynne with an apology. “You were right,” he said. His business was part of the proof – its brand appeal and compelling stories enraptured long-time customers, who were increasingly endeared to the brand now that they knew more about its depths, and new customers were eager to come into the store and become part of its community. Build Compelling, Meaningful, Purpose-Driven Messaging
Lynne took this philosophy and expanded upon it, building Your People LLC to the company it is today. We serve clients throughout North America who believe in taking risks in marketing and public relations, and we partner with them to build compelling, meaningful, purpose-driven messaging that guides all communications efforts. On this blog, we’ll share with you stories of meaning, purpose, and messaging success with takeaway for your own use and inspiration to guide your work. We’ll journey together on this pursuit of purpose.
